I am so amazed every time I read books by my fave authors and this anthology is no different.
Most of the authors in this collection I've read and loved, including Ceci Giltenan, Sue-Ellen Welfonder, Suzan Tisdale, Lily Baldwin, Tarah Scott. New authors for me Kate Robbins and Kathryn Lynn-Davis.
This is a great read from beginning to the end. I laughed, I cried, I got mad and I got so sad, tears welled up in my eyes, but what they have in common beside the happy endings is the heroes and heroines, despite the hardships and the obstacles thrown their way, are good souls, honorable and brave warriors that protect their loved ones.
Looking forward to Volume 2.
I fully recommend you pick this up for hours of enjoyment, also because the authors are donating a portion of the royalties from the sale of all e-books to the Cancer Research Institute.

The only reason I gave this book only 1 star is because it isn't the typical G C E A tuning, which is what I was expecting, and is for A D F# B tuning. I obviously didn't read the description.

Other than that it is a typical how to with old songs - the reality is that in this modern age one is better off just going on YouTube to learn.

Spartan material for adults

Spartan is the word for this book. More diagrams than words. Recommended for serious adults. Your kids may find this a bit difficult to follow.

The first part of this book is about basic techniques and 8 songs. The techniques are described in a simple, precise manner. Songs come with simple chord diagrams (e.g. for singing-along) above the score, while more sophisticated chordal solo diagrams are presented below the score. No words from the author on each of the songs, apart from this: "Practice these diagrams just as given and you will find that you shall indeed be playing the melody of the song in a chordal structure right on the uke."

The second part is about chord, chord, chord. First you practice popular chord changes in every key. Then there comes some interesting "opening and ending" patterns, which is quite useful. And finally the chord fingerings for standard chords in every imaginable inversion within an extent of uke fingerboard.

All of these in only 48 pages. I've never seen such a condensed material for uke.

But the Scales Fell From My Eyes

Other reviewers here are right about the first half of this book being so simplistic that it's nearly not worth reading. [Thanks, Mr. Smeck, for pointing out where my index finger is.] But what makes this book golden are parts two and three. The chord family arrangements are truly an education in themselves, not that the author gets into any detail at all about the nature of the relationships or even what you're looking at. In fact, it took me a while to realize that the major and minor chord families that appear on each page are, in reality, pretty much everything you need to compose a decent song in any key. Once that dawned on me, I was off and running. If you learn these, and learn them well, you've got a basic education in chord theory and progression without the verbiage. So forget the goofball instructions -- they're so bad, they're nearly insulting -- in the first half of the book (unless you really want to learn 'professional novelty strokes' such as the amazin' figure-eight and zig-zag stroking methods), and concentrate on the book's latter half.

I have seen a lot of tattoo learning or apprentice style books, this one is very direct and to the point - gets it done in a text book style. Easy to read. I run a tattoo school on the East coast - and I require all the students who complete my 6 month intro course to read this. The only way you can really learn to tattoo is from an apprenticeship - we just try to prep them for a fast track into the apprenticeship so they can focus on their artwork and this book really helps us get them on track. I wrote this book because I really believe in helping aspiring artists become professional tattooers. I think that information sharing is really important. We put training videos on the website for artists to supplement their apprenticeship. Trying to keep this relatively brief, I think its only right to give a bit of background as to where this reveiw comes from. I'm an artist in other mediums that has supported myself nicely for over
20 years,but have always been extremely interested in tattooing and beautification of the body. Unfortunatly still to this day many in the tattoo field want to make it seem as if the art form is some
secret, mysterious and unattainable cult that can only be bestowed upon those few who are chosen to "pay their dues" by the "old school" method of being an indentured slave for some time period.
Apprentiseship is not the same thing as slavery. I started late and couldn't afford that luxury. So I tried to learn and read and research and practice as much as I could and still do.
With all that said, the reason Mr Jordan gets my 5 stars is for what he is trying to create. He's attempting to create a community of people that are interested in this art form so that they can get
accurate information, not only through his book, but by attaching it to an open forum on the internet. In other words, I believe he is being truthful about the art of tattoo. The only way to become good
at any art is with talent, learning and hard work.
I have studied many books and other information on tattooing and I don't think any get 5 stars for content. There are many different opinions, even between the more well known artists out there.
Sometimes the website can be a bit sparse and erratic, but he certainly gives you an understanding of all the basics and seems to be a work in progress. Combined with the book, and the desire and guts
to make it available to those who make an effort, I certainly say thanks and give him 5 stars!

Added note: he has been very helpful whenever I have contacted him on the website( I hope he doesn't mind me saying ) doing all this while risking his life for our freedom being deployed over in the
gulf.

Pretty good Info

I found this book to be helpful in many areas. I tattoo, but wanted to understand more of the technical aspect of it. This book helped me understand better how a machine works, & how to tweak my machine to my liking. You won't read this book & open your own shop the next day, but there is a lot of good information in all aspects of tattooing. Including how to deal with customers, drawing deposits, aftercare, etc. I recommend this book to someone who wants to understand their trade better.

IMHO - An excellent resource for the beginning artist!

It's only the second tattoo beginner's book I've read this month, but I personally found it superior to the first (The Complete Art of Tattooing - Erick Alayon). This book breaks down the art of tattooing into easy to follow fundamental sections. In the early part of the book it even defines a set of landmarks the beginning artist should accomplish prior to putting needle to skin. It's everything the beginning artist needs in their first book. It touches on all aspects of the industry and process of tattooing. I highly recommend it to the beginning artist.

My favorite thing about this book is that the author gives the reader a of list of retailers for equipment and supplies after each respective section. Like other beginner's books he stresses the importance of an apprenticeship, and informs beginning artists that quality equipment and supplies from many renowned retailers will only sell to licensed tattoo shops.

There appear to be certain lofty members of our profession including (rather astoundingly) a few members of the judiciary who still think cyberspace is something of a space oddity. They should only read this book.

Aimed specifically at the criminal law fraternity, Ian Walden’s ‘Digital Crimes and Digital Investigations’ will nonetheless be of interest to all lawyers who inevitably will have to deal with ‘high tech’ crime issues. In providing an overview of this indubitably vexed subject, this book, now in a new second edition, makes an important contribution to the still relatively scarce body of literature concerning this specialised area of law.

The first edition was published – would you believe – nine years ago. And in case there are still a number of practitioners and judges out there who need reminding, the Internet was long past its infancy even then, having been in widespread use at the time for at least ten years. Recently published by the Oxford University Press, the book provides an important update which will certainly be welcomed by criminal practitioners.

As the title indicates, the focus is on computer crime, more commonly referred to as ‘cyber-crime’ – a phenomenon facilitated by the ever-developing technologies of computer connectivity – i.e. the Internet. Now ubiquitous and almost instantly available, the Internet in the author’s words, has become ‘a key resource of the global economy.’ Largely unregulated (except in totalitarian states) the Internet has also become a key resource for assorted criminals and terrorists.

Author Ian Walden, who hails from Baker McKenzie and teaches an LLM course entitled ‘International Cybercrimes and Investigations’, mentions that the clients with whom he has had dealings, have exposed him to issues and insights that are not normally available to academics. He has also been a board member of a number of institutions concerned with Internet scrutiny, particularly on Internet safety.

The book, he says, may be viewed simply as a criminal law text’ ‘operating as a filter through which we can examine the whys and wherefores of criminal law and policy.’ It can be regarded as a computer crime book, or ‘a book on crime with a cyberspace filter’ -- in short, a book which focuses specifically on crime, as opposed to other aspects of internet usage such as contracts, trademarks, domain names and the like, not to mention ordinary communications.

As the author also remarks, it is obvious that computers ‘may play a part in the commission of nearly every form of criminal activity, from fraud to murder.’ The subject area is so wide that large chunks of it go beyond the scope of this book. The author therefore turns our attention to problems where computers and networks are involved, ‘either,’ he says, because ‘the legislation was drafted in an era before such technology was envisaged, or because statutory drafting has failed to be robust enough to appropriately address the use of information computer technologies (ICT).’ And there, fellow lawyers, lies the crux of the problem.

This is indeed a massive subject and those who crave further information on it will find research references aplenty in this book, including tables of cases, legislation and international treaties and conventions. Also note the four appendices, extensive footnoting and the ten-page bibliography.

Based on recent developments in digital and the current pace of change, it is anticipated that further editions of this distinguished and accessible work of reference will appear in the future, ideally at more frequent intervals.

I just found out from my son that this story is the same as the 1st story included in the Ranger's Apprentice: The Lost Stories (Berkley Sensation) book. Fortunately for him (since he paid for this with a gift card he received) the kindle ebook return process is painless and he gets his money back.

5 stars for the story, -2 for not indicating it is a re-publish.

Great story, but a repeat!!!

This is a wonderful filling in of some back story in Will's history, but what is not made clear is that this short story is a part of the "Lost Stories." I was under the impression that this was a new release when I bought it. I was unaware that it was part of the collection of short stories already released (and purchased). If you have not read "the Lost Stories," then definitely buy this, but if you have, then "Death of a Hero" is part of that collection.

Great short story, but if you have Flanagan's The Lost Stories, then this is already contained in it. I don't have the book and bought it to have the e-version of this story. It is my favorite story of the collection. It is the story of how Halt met Will at the very beginning. You'll have to read it if you want to learn more.

Violet is hardly normal, she has went from being a script-writer for horror movies to being a shapeshifter but there is something special about Violet, something that an old prophesy says will help all of the shapshifters in Dallas have a better life .... If she lives that long and overcomes more problems than you could list with Excel.

This series was a bit of a surprise since I had the first 2 books buried in my "to-be-read" stack of books for over a year and that is where they would still be if I had not been given a copy of Vampires Gone Wild to review and in that anthology the best story was one called "First Dates Are Hell" which was very good and it came from the Urban Panther series (actually in the timeline it was after the trilogy of books).

So after enjoying that story I grabbed the books I had, bought #3 and started reading and was totally hooked into this story, I am not sure if the author was writing a trilogy when she wrote Diaries of an Urban Panther but these 3 books have to be read together to really get the full impact (who wants to read 1 book of the Lord of the Rings?) and while each book has an ending of sorts the real story that threads through all of them is the one that ends in the last book of this trilogy.

While I do not want to give away too much of the story, I can say it was one of the best reading experiences I have had in several months, but while I am extolling this series greatness I need to point out that if you are OCD about editing then book 2 may pose some problems since her editor must have jumped ship during the writing/publication of Claws and Effects (book #2) but I was still able to enjoy it and continue on but be forewarned.

The ending of the main story arc threading through all the books coming to an epic end in book 3 and one of the best endings I have seen in awhile to be honest. The characters were fleshed out very well, Violet was an awesome heroine and her humor was what made reading this series a much more pleasurable task.

Let me just say that as a full time reviewer as a hobby, I get dozens of free books every month and I went and BOUGHT all of these books after reading the story in Vampires Gone Wild and in spite of some bad editing and stumbles along the way, this story was so good I could care less. I give it 5 Stars not because it is an awesome piece of writing but because it was the best story I have read in a long time AND I liked the way it made me feel when it ended. You don't get many of those type stories.

My hope is that she may come back to this series (although blogs have said it was over) since I loved it but the ending was good enough I can live with this being all these is, get these books and enjoy a great story and ignore any stumbles along the way to an awesome ending. The story in Vampires Gone Wild was just a bonus to close a loop on one of the characters and it was done exceptionally.

I read all 3 books after reading her short story in the trilogy book. I enjoyed the story line. I felt the editing was sub par and took you out of the story. Entire words were wrong such as excited where exited should have been.

I received this book from the publisher via Edelweiss in return for a honest review. This book continues on as Violet Jordan is dealing with being the Prima of the Dallas pack. Violet has built a strong connection with all the shapeshifters however the vampire witches and elementals are all running a muck on their own. Violet is still having nightmares from Spencer from the other side of the veil. However this time he's going to come through and make his claim on the legacy that Violet has.

In this book the former mutts are starting to get their lives back on track, they are at the point where some of them are even dating but I feel bad for poor Shadow being stuck a dog forever, but maybe one day they will be able to break the curse. I like the romance and connection with the other characters of the book, and we really start to learn what Violet has planned for the pack and Dallas community.

This book like the other two sucked me in right away. I love Violet as a character she's not your skinny little blonde barbie but she's as she put it tall and chubby. I love her personality she wants to do right by the pack but she still believes that having their lives with families should be their first priority. The shapeshifter concept is unique because their are dogs, hawks, rabbits, horses, wolves, and of course the panther in the pack. It's not very often I've read a book with shapeshifters who are prey and I found that interesting. I also really like the chemistry between Violet and Chaz who doesn't love when the hero has a strong guy to protect her. The characters are so well written you feel like your their with them and I love reading a book that makes you feel like your in the story. I like that this book gave us a ending but with the potential for more, I'd hate to see it end but I feel like if it did I'm ok with it ending as it did.
