Early 20th Century Mystery set in Australia

I became a fan of Phryne Fisher from Netflix. What a wonderful period piece! This the my first reading of Kerry Greenwood and it was not lacking in anyway. I love the details provided of the setting, the characters and the mystery. It is a great read for fans of light mystery and a wonderful read for fans of period mysteries with a woman lead!

Well-done, fun mystery with well-developed characters and a sexy heroine set in front of the landscape of 1920's Melbourne. Very enjoyable. Interestingly, unlike many, the TV series based on these books is quite faithful to the characters and plot lines found in the novel.

About the Author

Howard M. Resh has a doctorate degree in horticulture and is a recognized authority worldwide on hydroponics. He has written five books on hydroponic culture for both commercial and hobby growers and his website (www.howardresh.com) presents information on hydroponic cultures of various vegetable crops. Dr. Resh is the hydroponic greenhouse farm manager for the first hydroponic farm associated with a high-end resort―CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa in Anguilla, British West Indies. Not happy.

Kindle Version - This book isn't formatted for use on Kindle. It appears to be a pdf which doesn't allow you to use any of the Kindle features. Also forget about reading it on your computer because it apparently won't work. Why the publisher is charging so much for a non kindle version and claiming it is, is beyond me. Buyer Beware. I should have just purchased the printed book. Not happy.

The missing link

As a CTO of a company that develops machine learning software(Analytics 1305), I always find it challenging to convince business people about the value of machine learning. Even the scientists in Business intelligence, mainly statisticians, find it hard to understand what machine learning can do. This is because in order to make a connection of their background to machine learning they need to put a lot of effort to read one of the bulky machine learning books. This is not easy since scientists in business intelligence are super busy and they don't have the time to read machine learning theory and translate it to their language.

This book bridges the gap. It speaks the language of machine learning with the "accent" of business intelligence/(industrial and systems engineering). It has helped us tremendously to educate and market our clients about the value of machine learning. It has also helped us (machine learning people) to understand better the business intelligence area. There are a lot of books that talk about analytics/data mining in a very high level. This one talks about the stuff that actually work and have made netflix, amazon, google and yahoo successful companies. I highly recommend this book.

I would also like to note that the editor has done a very good job in the typesetting.

The attraction was indisputable and the chemistry was off the charts. So what's the problem then? Stubborn McKinnon feels that a life of bachelorhood is his destiny. Casey, on the other hand, feels differently. Will McKinnon be able to resist seduction, Westmoreland style?

There's nothing more I can say that hasn't already been said about Brenda. The fact that this is book number 45 speaks for itself. Fans of the Westmoreland family will not be disappointed. Anxiously waiting on Spencer's Forbidden Passion.

Casey Westmoreland knows about seduction

Another Westmoreland woman who gets her man. Much like the book that kicked off the Westmoreland series, we find that it's not only the Westmoreland men who get what they want. Casey wanted a job, but found McKinnon Quinn simply irresistable.

However, he was trying to fight his feelings for the beautiful Casey. When their romance develops, it's steamy.

As usual, Brenda Jackson has given us a book that is a great read. Casey and McKinnon have some serious issues and I love the fact that this couple helps each other grow.

Casey Westmoreland and McKinnon Quinn are finally united in SEDUCTION: WESTMORELAND STYLE, Brenda Jackson's tenth installment of the Westmoreland clan saga.

Casey is so dead-set on McKinnon being her first and only lover that she literally begs him to hire her as a horse trainer on his ranch. Of course he refuses. When one of the horses goes haywire, and before it injures one of his helpers, Casey steps in and brings the horse under control. After careful consideration McKinnon decides to give it a go and offers her the job. Little does he know he stepped out of the frying pan into the fire. You see, in order to fulfill the duties of the position, Casey would have to live in the guesthouse at his ranch. With Casey being in such close proximity, McKinnon finds himself daydreaming and having a hard time keeping his mind on running his ranch. Poor, poor McKinnon, Casey laid that ole Westmoreland Seduction on him so thick, he never knew what hit him.

In true Jackson fashion, this novel will leave you breathless. The back and forth antics between Casey and McKinnon will have you screaming at the top of your lungs, wishing they'd just get it over with. The book is well written and the storyline magnificent. Jackson is and has always been one of my favorite authors.

Real breakthrough

Ah. So It has a name. That feeling that follows us through years and years, that keeps eating at us and deteriorating our life. At first you double the efforts to keep on functioning and achieving ("put your back into it!"). Some achievements come with that. But you feel increasingly drained, fearful of disasters and failure (which can lead you smack into some of them btw), and just so gd tired. And weirdly empty, disconnected and phony even to yourself. Soooo.... bit by bit you keep on trying to quench that nagging dissatisfied thirst with... well, just plain more. More work. More "fun" (a world of problems here, none of them fun at all). More money. More shoes. And always thinking "when I get that new (i) car (ii) job (iii) promotion (iv) title (v) ring etc etc etc, I'll feel better. More serene and real. I'll find "my" place, where I "belong"".
One therapist once told me that this sounded like "when I grow up...". I never forgot that.
This book is important. To me, it was an absolute revelation.
If you identify with anything I wrote above, check this book out. It brings an almost immediate feeling of relief. What happens after the first eureka moment is up to each one of us and our individual stories. But, as a group, it's like realizing your symptons are documented and part of a disease that afflicts a lot of people and not just you - and which CAN be treated; which has nothing to do with your real identity.
And that place? Where we belong? It's right there inside each of us, patiently waiting for us to come back. I'm trying to find my own way back, and this book was the most precise and clearest "guide" I found so far. For the first time in my life, I feel like I'm on my way. Using the right road and all. At the right pace.
I do wish I had come across this before. But then again, time and place for everything, right?

As you can imagine when I got to that point in the book and read about it I was greatly amazed: ) I almost have the feeling that

I had only learned the concept of toxic shame just this year online. The online source I learned it from was lacking in terms of solutions though. This book does both well in my opinion, it describes the problem, and solutions. I found it very ironic when I started reading this book because after learning about the existence of toxic shame I had started doing the first few steps to fix the problem that he suggested in this book. As you can imagine when I got to that point in the book and read about it I was greatly amazed :) I almost have the feeling that God was guiding me in my recent life to help me with my psychological issues. You don't have to be religious to do what this book says though, and in fact it will tell you that if you are built in toxic shame you CANNOT be religious, and his solutions do not require religion at any step of the process.

I had taken medicine and had even gone to a therapist with my psychological concerns and never felt that any progress was made. Some of the things suggested as solutions in this book were suggested to me by the therapist but he didn't really explain things in a way that got me motivated like this book did. I think you have to have a basic understanding of the problem before you can start work to fix it. That's the thing with toxic shame: hearing what you are doing wrong won't help, it just reinforces it, makes it worse. You have to understand that the toxic shame is the SOURCE of the problem before you can take steps to solve it.

I heard lots and lots of positive things about this book. Although I have found useful things in the text, the general tone of the book irked me. The author should abstain from judging as shaming things he clearly does not understand in depth. His treatment of religion, for example, I found lacking. He used few words (and shaming language!) to do away with concepts which, properly understood, have none of the features the author laments (original sin, the existence of hell, etc). One may have objections to what is taught by different religions and may understand things differently, but embracing superficial interpretations and dismissing whole topics as "shaming" or "condemning" is not intellectually adequate. It also is not helpful, because spiritual abuse is healed by finding a path to the truth that was obscured in the abuse. I felt that the author's approach may make it even harder to resolve the abuse.
