Walking the wings of a Tiger Moth plane in full flight ought to be enough excitement for most people, but not Phryne Fisher, amateur detective, woman of mystery, as delectable as the finest chocolate and as sharp as razor blades.
In this, the second Phryne Fisher mystery, the 1920s' most talented and glamorous detective flies even higher, handling a murder, a kidnapping and the usual array of beautiful young men with style and consummate ease―and all before it's time to adjourn to the Queenscliff Hotel for breakfast. Whether she's flying planes, clearing a friend of homicide charges or saving a child from kidnapping, she handles everything with the same dash and elan with which she drives her red Hispano-Suiza.

From Publishers Weekly
The many U.S. fans of Greenwood's feisty and plucky Australian flapper sleuth Phryne Fisher should especially enjoy the second entry in the series (Cocaine Blues, etc.), which presents another pair of cases from the early days of her career as a private detective. The two inquiries present quite different challenges: the first, to track down the kidnappers of a young girl, whose father just won the lottery, before she is harmed; the second, to identify the murderer of a bully whose son has been charged with the offense. Fisher again displays an impressive set of skills, from air-walking and daredevil plane flying to blood-splatter analysis, and Greenwood leavens her plot with Wodehousian characters and wit.

From Booklist
The dashing Phryne Fisher, Australian flapper, makes her sixteenth appearance, and she hasn't worn out her welcome. Phryne, a glamorous detective and aviatrix, living in 1920s Melbourne, solves a mystery as easily as she lands a plane. Here her cases involve a murder and a kidnapping, but what makes the story delicious are the flourishes, from Phryne's interior-decorating style (nude paintings of Phryne) to her detecting techniques (jumping into bed with a source). A strong cast of characters surrounds the inimitable flapper, including the kidnapped child (shades of "The Ransom of Red Chief") and a group of women nearly as irrepressible as Phryne herself. Great fun! Ilene Cooper

Review
This series is the best Australian import since Nicole Kidman, and Phryne is the flashiest new female sleuth in the genre.

Early 20th Century Mystery set in Australia
By Amazon Customer
I became a fan of Phryne Fisher from Netflix. What a wonderful period piece! This the my first reading of Kerry Greenwood and it was not lacking in anyway. I love the details provided of the setting, the characters and the mystery. It is a great read for fans of light mystery and a wonderful read for fans of period mysteries with a woman lead!

fun mystery with well-developed characters and a sexy heroine set ...
By B. Davis
Well-done, fun mystery with well-developed characters and a sexy heroine set in front of the landscape of 1920's Melbourne. Very enjoyable. Interestingly, unlike many, the TV series based on these books is quite faithful to the characters and plot lines found in the novel.

Fun characters and a good mystery in 1920s Australia
By RoseWelsh
Wish these books weren't so expensive, even in e-print. If they were reasonable I'd read everyone. These books are as good as the TV series they inspired.
