Jairo Grijalba Ruiz antrop�logo y escritor colombiano naci� en Popay�n, en 1962. En el 2009 escribi� el libro “Edy Mart�nez el hombre del piano”. Es coautor del libro “Benny Mor� Sin Fronteras”, publicado en el 2013 por Ediciones Santo Bassil�n de Medell�n, cuyo desarrollo estuvo al cuidado del destacado investigador musical Sergio Santana Archbold, con la participaci�n de reconocidos autores como la periodista venezolana Lil Delvalle Rodr�guez y el respetado music�logo habanero (residente en Puerto Rico) Crist�bal D�az Ayala . Tambi�n es coautor del libro “�Fuera zapato viejo! Cr�nicas, retratos y entrevistas sobre la salsa en Bogota” (2014), editado por Mario Jursich Dur�n, con el apoyo de la alcald�a distrital a trav�s de Idartes (Instituto Distrital de las Artes), y el Instituto Distrital de Patrimonio Cultural. Jairo Grijalba Ruiz escribe art�culos sobre m�sica popular para revistas de su pa�s y del exterior tales como Mel�manos Documentos de Cali, La Lira de Barranquilla, D'CubaJazz de La Habana, Herencia Latina de San Juan, Puerto Rico, Radio Gladys Palmera de Zaragoza (Espa�a) y Salsa Global de Bogot�. Desde 1978 se dedica a la radio como presentador de varios espacios musicales sobre jazz, blues y m�sica latina, particularmente a trav�s de Radio Unicauca, emisora universitaria de la regi�n donde vive. Encontr� en Lucy su esposa aquel eslab�n perdido que necesitaba para completar su existencia, esa peque�a pero importante pieza del rompecabezas que todo antrop�logo a�ora con nostalgia y anhela con ansiedad, quien le regal� un maravilloso ser llamado Ernesto, que es su principal motivador. Su madre Helena lo form� en el mundo de la m�sica descubriendo en su ni�ez una temprana vocaci�n por la investigaci�n y la literatura, a trav�s de viajes y aventuras por los r�os y esteros del litoral Pac�fico colombiano, acerc�ndolo al folclor y a los mitos y leyendas afrocolombianos. De su padre aprendi�, disciplina, austeridad, y los secretos de una vida sobria y mesurada, fundamentada en valores universales como el trabajo y la dedicaci�n. Consumer Beware

This is the first part of a "Trilogy", each volume priced at $45. But there was no reason for 3 volumes -- the material fits in one book. To break this work into 3 over-priced volumes, the publisher, or the author, or both, have giant type, and giant spaces. This is theft.
Imagine an artist puts out a musical work in 3 separate CDs, each priced at a hefty $25, and you order all three for a total of $75, and when they arrive you discover each CD contains only 15 minutes of music.
Shame on the publisher, CreateSpace (an Amazon subsidiary), and shame on the author. Fool me once, shame on you...
Too bad, though, the publication of this study in one fairly priced book would have been a nice addition to a library on Arsenio Rodriguez...
But the price point is a deal breaker, and in light of that, one can raise fair questions about whether this investigation is original.

Fascinating investigative work of a legend

This book has hypnotized me from start to end. Jairo Grijalba Ruiz as anthropologist and investigative Colombian writer tells in this book the life of the man who is the pioneer of the Mambo, Guaguanco and Salsa . His sources and several meetings with the people who he interviewed through-out almost 20 years of research that lived and worked alongside Arsenio Rodriguez makes this piece a valuable collector’s item.
The book is only one volume and a second one with only images and is very easy to read at a standard price (I’ve got both).
I recommend this book if you are a “Salsomano” it is a must have and if you are new into salsa it would be perfect because it is a well written story of a blind man who’s deserves the recognition of the father of Modern Salsa we listen today.
