An Original Sequel

The sequel to Brightflame Ascension is captivating. Filled with new characters and new territories, the Brightflame continues his quest across Gammalgard. As a reader I was strapped to the edge of my seat throughout (I binge-read it in two sittings). I would rank this in my top 10 favorite fantasy series.

Congrats to D.B. Penner and I look forward to the third book.

A great follow up book, continuing Brightflames struggles against the Hunters and the Shadow Liberator. A good twist and Will coming into more of his powers provided a great store to follow. I couldn't put it down once I started and look forward to the third installment.

Ivor Horton is self-employed in consultancy and writes programming tutorials. He worked for IBM for many years and holds a bachelor's degree, with honors, in mathematics. Horton's experience at IBM includes programming in most languages (like assembler and high-level languages on a variety of machines), real-time programming, and designing and implementing real-time closed loop industrial control systems. He has extensive experience teaching programming to engineers and scientists (Fortran, PL/1, APL, etc.). Horton is an expert in mechanical, process, and electronic CAD systems; mechanical CAM systems; and DNC/CNC systems.

I'm using this to get up to date.

My knowledge of C++ is a little patchy in places (it was learned on the job) and certainly not very up to date with the latest C++ 14 standard.
I'm using this book to update it.
It reads a bit like a reference book and a bit like an introduction, but it might not be the best place to start if you are not an experienced programmer because the explanations are somewhat condensed (and that's why I like it, it gets to the point). The author seems to have a good knack at knowing what aspects of the language are less obvious.
If you like a more leisurely, beginner-oriented approach get the book by Prata.
There are lots of books on C++ out there, but few are a up to date with the latest standard as this one. I find the style of writing lively and I dont fall asleep reading it unlike some others I wont mention!

Lots of interesting statistics for MMA buffs

Disclosure: I personally know the author as a fellow academic. The author is a full professor at Fordham University and a household name among academicians in the areas of pricing and services marketing. He is a prolific researcher who became a tenured professor at the age of 32 and is currently the editor of the top journal in financial services marketing. I am mentioning this to highlight the authors' credibility in applying statistical analysis to the area of MMA.

The book presents plenty of interesting facts and statistics regarding the impact of various factors on the fight outcome -- things like age, height, reach, etc. How much more likely is a fighter to win if he fights in his hometown? What are the most common types of injuries, and how do they change with age? Etc.

One of the most interesting chapters to me was the one where he talks about a statistical model to predict the fight outcome. This model predicts the outcome correctly in 64% of cases. The model is not predictive enough to make money gambling (and if it did bookies would quickly later the odds anyhow), but it is fascinating reading.

Best book next to the Bible.

It's hard to rate this book with only 5 stars. I was raised a Mormon. After leaving the cult due to the Mormon inconsistencies and contradictions I found myself in a state of limbo. I didn't know what to believe. I knew that a God existed but wasn't sure if it was the Christian God, the many many Hindu gods or maybe some deity that was unknown and impersonal.
The Case for Christ was a critical look at Christianity from the perspective of an atheist. Lee Strobel left no stone unturned. He tackled the historicity of the person Jesus, the resurrection account, miricals and every objection to which I wanted answers.

I enjoyed reading this book

I enjoyed reading this book. Already a believer in Christ, my primary purpose for reading the book was to add to research I am doing to write a book on Christ. My purpose will be to explain the trinty of God. Jesus the person is also Jesus who is in fact God. One of the primary arguments by Muslims is that Christians believe in three gods while they worship the one true God.
I was amazed the Shroud of Turin was not included in this book since it offers amazing evidence of the Resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
However, the sources Lee Strobel does provide from his exhaustive investigation of the facts is compelling to say the least.
I recommend this book as one the best for those who have doubts, but are seeking the truth. If having the Bible present in its final form is not enough for you and you are seeking historical evidence, forensic evidence, theological evidence, medical evidence, and psychological evidence then this is the book for you.
If you just want to strengthen your own spiritual growth this book is also for you.
In either case do a search on you tube for the Shroud of Turin for the latest physical evidence along with biological and photographic evidence in The Case for Jesus. About the Author
Hagi Kenaan teaches philosophy at Tel-Aviv University. In addition to studies in phenomenology, aesthetics and the philosophy of art, he is the author of The Present Personal: Philosophy and the Hidden Face of Language (Columbia University Press, 2005) and Emmanuel Levinas: Ethics as an Optics (Tel-Aviv, 2008). Ilit Ferber is Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department at Tel-Aviv University. She has published articles on Benjamin, Freud, Brecht and Herder. She recently completed a book manuscript entitled Melancholy and Philosophy: Walter Benjamin’s Early Writings , and her current research deals with the relationship between pain and theories of the origin of language in Rousseau, Herder, Freud, Benjamin and Wittgenstein.
