2000 years after the Rapture, the world still sucks.
Vikardt just wants to die. 2000 years is a long time to live, especially when you’re responsible for the greatest disaster in human history. But only the Stone of Rapture can kill him. So when an archeological team recovers the lost talisman, sweet death finally comes within Vikardt’s grasp.
And a rogue beats him to it. Now the talisman responsible for the infamous Rapture is embedded in Doban’s chest. In a desperate gamble, Vikardt manipulates the king into initiating a manhunt for the rogue.
Doban must seek protection from the unlikeliest of allies: one, an abused monster with an appetite for human flesh; the other, a woman he once left to die in a tomb. Can they let go of the past long enough to keep Doban alive? Or will Vikardt recover the stone and bring about a second Rapture?

"This is definitely one series, and author, that I will be following closely and highly recommend to anyone who loves a good laugh." --Black Lagoon Reviews
About the Author
A permanent fixture at his local coffeehouse, Jason Beymer hunches over his laptop in a caffeine-induced frenzy, jowls slick with muse. He writes fantasy and horror laced with inappropriate humor. When not pounding on his keyboard, Jason worships at the feet of Ray Bradbury, and engages in an unhealthy obsession with Grace Park and Tricia Helfer.

A fun, fast romp with plenty of gory humor.
By Eiji
While the gross-out factor gets pretty high sometimes, it's worth it for the humor. At first the anachronisms threw me off until I realized what was really going on, but after that it's fairly smooth sailing. Beymer takes some pretty unlikeable people and turns them into lovable characters who fill hilarious roles as satires of the epic fantasy genre, reinvented in a future Earth that's reverted to the medieval. Underneath the prevalent sarcasm, though, there's a pretty solid story that sneaks up and grabs you while you're busy laughing at the snark. I especially love the villain, Vikardt, who manages to at once mock the trope of the evil sorcerer while presenting a compelling danger to our intrepid, somewhat flabby, and constantly bickering heroes. The stone, too, is an interesting mystery to unravel; there are constant hints that it's on the side of good, on the side of evil, or just on the side of its own best interests--and the answer doesn't come out until the end, effectively stringing along the suspense until the last moment.
I'd say the only character I didn't really like was Mona. I'm not sure why, but she just annoyed me. She played well off Doban, though.
I think the epilogue is setting up the premise for a sequel. If so, I'm looking forward to it.

So funny!!!
By Diana Paz
This book is so funny! Non-stop action; something awesome or gross or hilarious happened in every scene. I wasn't expecting it to make me laugh so much! Doban is a GREAT main character (I was going to say "hero" but........haha, that wouldn't be the right word, considering he's a rogue); he reminds me of a cruder, more foul-mouthed, even FUNNIER Han Solo. Mona is smart --way smarter than Doban-- and even though she kicks major butt, she's still a girl underneath it all, and I *love* that. Highly entertaining book, well worth the read. I'm really excited that it's the first of a series. I can't wait for more!
